They say that nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. However, I think that another certainty seems to be the unnecessary conflict between homosexuality and religion. Most major religions reject homosexuality, claiming it is a sin. Or if homosexuality on its own is not a sin, the sexual acts that go along with it are definitely labeled as sins. Each religion usually has a couple of quotes in their religious books which can be interpreted to outlaw homosexuality.

This has unfortunately isolated many religious gay people, and turned them away from their religion. Many feel abandoned by their religion, and now feel lost. Some gay people have rejected religion, and some even hate religion. One can understand all these emotions, as us gay people just want to be accepted and loved. We want to fit in, and also be welcomed by religion.

So, you must be wondering why I’ve decided to take the time out to write to you now, after all these years. For many years I have watched atrocity after atrocity committed in My name. And I kept thinking you’d grow up. You’d figure it out. The Civil Rights movement when you finally grasped that the colour of your skin does not determine your level of humanity. Such a proud moment. Truly. I had a good old sniffle about it. Shooting MLK was not cool. But I understood. You’re still learning. So I forgave. And I accepted.

So what’s changed you ask?

For years Westboro Baptist Church has harassed people and organizations indiscriminately with a message of hatred. They spend $250,000 a year flying to picket the funerals of soldiers, violent deaths, and AIDS victims. They also bring their message of hate to schools, claiming that it is because the government supports gay rights. By doing this they rack up frequent flier miles which reduces their travel costs and gets them perks. If they are unable to fly or get reduced fare it will limit their ability to propagate hatred indiscriminately.

I can't begin to tell you how much this video moved me. I ran out of tissues watching it. (so if you are in a public space and don't wanna be seen crying, maybe save this clip for when you get home.)

As we all know, the Gay Marriage debate is so much fun prevalent in the political pole poll dancing these days, its hard to ignore (whether you support the institution of marriage or not)
